I wrote to the tatoo artist in Singapore who originated the design I liked and asked permission to re-use it. Alas, he declined. SInce I can’t go to Singapore to have him do it, I’m not going to be ble to use the exact design I’d hoped for. I still like the middle section–which is, with some coloration changes, a Kandinski watercolor. But the bottom third and top widget of the Singapore artist’s tattoo have to be something else.
Conceptually, then, what I need is something sized about the same as the Singapore tattoo, but with different artwork at bottom and the top. Not being an artist, the only thing I could think of was to use another Kandinski work to inspire the bottom portion. I found one, “the Opening,” that might work. “Shine” Is another Kandinski piece with elements that are simple enough to incorporate into a tattoo. Here are the three paintings, then, side-by-side.

“The opening” isn’t directly applicable to “Grey Circle,” but the the basic shapes and context are, with coloration changes. The more geometric shapes in “Shine” fit a bit better, but the colors need even more changes.
The two tentative designs are below, along with the Singapore artist’s original (which still I like best but can’t use).

Whiule I think that the Singapore artist’s design is better, I think I can live with either of the two alternates I’ve come up with. I envision this as actually three distinct but related tattoos. One is on my lower wrist, one mostly on my lower forearm, and one on my upper arm, just above the elbow. Of course, it’s also possible we could just do the middle section.
